Forget about all the transfer saga and media talk over the proposed moves of Ronaldo going from Man Utd to Real Madrid, or Frank Lampard joining up again with Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, but Aston Villa have actually made a transfer before the transfer window closes. The deal was confirmed on July 26th that Brad Friedel with be joining them from Blackburn for an undisclosed fee.

This still leaves them struggling for senior players for the start of the season when it will be required for all premier league teams to have 7 subs on the bench, and with the unfortunate horrific injury that happened to Wilfred Bouma on Saturday in Villa's Intertoto Cup victory over Odense BK this still leaves their squad with minimum numbers.

If Aston Villa are to succeed this season and actually managed a top 10 finish then Randy Lerner will need to get his cheque book out and allow Martin O'Neill to make new signings, if it ends up with Villa starting the season with a small squad then the bet made by Brin that Villa wouldn’t finish in the top 10 could happen and Phil will have to pay up.
