We all got together for brins Birthday where we presented him with a Top Gear "Stig" birthday cake and candles that said "You're Old" and a suitably rude card.

M3 Mayhem

This was the scene moments after Shiney's roof box flew open as he drove the family down the M3 for a weekend of camping in Lymington. Reports say the M3 was closed for some time during Friday rush hour.

Is this the first pictures of baby Doug all the way from sunny Thailand. Seems he is also a villa fan so all the signs are there.

Fantasy Football League

During the course of a marvelous evening round Brin's, Phil thought it would be a good idea if we all sort ourselves out with fantasy sides for the coming season. I was given the task of posting it on the blog in order to lose my blog cherry, so to speak. So, here are the details:

You'll need to create an account on http://fantasy.premierleague.com/.

It's free, so all you'll need to do is choose a name for your team, a strip and finally your team. Just to get yourselves started you can let the website randomly select a team for you but you are able to play around it making as many changes as you want up until the first game weekend. That's what I've done to get myself registered and into our league.

I've created a league for us called Big Fat Wednesdays. You can follow the instructions on the website and join this league using the following code 219937-56601.

Here's some details of restrictions on the teams:

Team

With a budget of £100 million, choose a squad of 15 players made up of:
2 Goalkeepers
5 Defenders
5 Midfielders
3 Forwards
No more than 3 players can be selected from a single team.

...and here's a link to the rest of the rules, scoring etc:

Barby round Andy's

We met up around Andy's for a barby and had a good feed. As the night drew on it started to get a little cold so the Chimnea got lit. After a while, rather bizarrely, and I've no doubt due to some excess alcohol, it was decided to smash up the bird table and use this for firewood. There then followed a noisy orgy of destruction which probably woke most of the town as well as the neighbours, and all for an extra 20 minutes heat.

Weekend in Butlins

Last weekend a few of the Wednesday night crew travelled down to Butlins in Bognor Regis, to join up with a large group of Colins workmates, to celebrate his 40th birthday at an Adult Party Weekend. With a group of 23 of us we made for quite a raucous group and we all seemed to thoroughly enjoy it despite the huge hangovers a few people suffered from. The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the Saturday night when we decided to dress up as hippies. It was a great night and everyone in our party made an effort to dress up. Here are a few of the photos

Unlucky!

Oh dear what a shame!

Still even Brin had to admit that the better side won on the night.

Slow cooked shoulder of pork and a few bottles of red added to the sense of occasion on what was a pretty good night for Liverpool fans.

U - N - I......T - E - D....We've got five and you've got three, with a knick-knack paddywack, give a dog a bone....Man Utd stuffed in Rome!

Let the battle commence

Tonight is the big night of football where the champions of England will be taking on the champions of Spain. Brin will be the host for the evening whereby he will bound to be nervous, I'm sure Phil will be there to offer him words of assurance as he does every week.

Ant is sure to receive a number of comments regarding Newcastle's relegation to the championship whereby instead of the playing the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd or Chelsea, Newcastle will be playing Scunthorpe, Blackpool and Peterborough. Oh what joy they'll be to watch.

Will the next blog be comments of joy for Brin or will he be crying in his glass of wine? Funny if it's Spanish wine.

The great BBQ debate

Middle age descended onto Wednesday night as the main theme of discussion seemed to be about BBQ and the qualities of 'lava rocks'. The footie was almost as dull as Chelsea and Everton gave us a glimpse of what's in store for the FA Cup final. At least the farmshop pies were of the usual great standard. Phil seemed to like his birthday cake even if he did end up signing his own birthday card!

Hamster Curry

Well it's three teams from the EPL in the CL semis again - ManU v Arsenal and Chelsea V Barca. Liverpool crashed out after an epic battle at the Bridge allowing them to focus on hunting down the tiring Utd in the Prem. Good night round Phil's where there was an Indian theme as I guest chef'd makign Chicken (or was it hamster?) Jalfezi. No reported 'on the pan' incidents so far!

Thursday, 9 April 2009

As Liverpool took a rare beating at Anfield due to some lousy defending from set pieces, history was made as Jill turned up for some Wednesday night action instead of the usual Ant. Everyone agreed that this was a much better arrangement although there was no-one to take the piss out of Newcastle with! Jill thankfully ignored all the warnings that she had been given by her hubby and seemed to enjoy her new found freedom.

A few members are going off to exotic locations for the next couple of weeks so hope they have a great time. Spare a though for poor 'Hammy' (pictured) who looked like he was going to have to fend for himself for the next fortnight until Darren stepped in at the last minute to offer the cash strapped hamster a bed at his mansion in the country. Hammy said, 'I hope that people don't get the wrong idea. I'm not that kind of hamster. It's all completly innocent - honest!'.

Have You Seen This Man

Was it just me or as the evening progressed did anyone else see this man. Maybe the excitement of the game or a wine too far. Funny but I could not find Andy when I left and did not see the two of them in the same room at the same time.

Wednesday 1st April 2009

It was no April fool England securred their 5th win in their world cup qualifying group that puts them one step closer to booking their place in the 2010 world cup finals in South Africa. Could England blow the strong position they are in and from previous England performances this is likely.

The night was full of the usual banter and jokes along with Lewis and Gary laughing at old school pictures of themselves. The food was a chilli and there was certainly no comments that it wasn't hot enough as there was plenty of heat to the food.
Next Wednesday will certainly be a night of interest as it is the return of the champions league whereby Liverpool host Chelsea in the quarter final.

The idea of arranging a day at the races was something that everyone seemed to want to arranage, and the question was asked what midweek evening races were on at Newbury. Please see below for details -

European Cup Draw

The Wednesday nights of the champions will be as interesting as ever, the draw was made and Liverpool and Chelsea will meet again for the fifth consecutive season. You just couldn't make it up. The nights will be full of the usual passion and excited, and for some the up most joy and others sad depression, and of course certain abuse coming from certain corners of the room (you know who you are!).
.
The first leg of the Liverpool v Chelsea game will take place at Anfield on 8 April, with the return leg at Stamford Bridge on 14.
.
Holders Manchester United have been paired against Portuguese underdogs Porto, with the first leg to be played at Old Trafford.
.
Arsenal will travel to Villarreal for the first leg before tackling the Spaniards at Emirates Stadium.
.
Full quarter-final draw: Villarreal v Arsenal. Man Utd v Porto. Barcelona v Bayern Munich. Liverpool v Chelsea.
.
Full semi-final draw:

Barcelona or Bayern Munich v Liverpool or Chelsea

On another note the assault charge against England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been dropped.

Mike Bassett Football Manager

Tonight sees the Wednesday night tour go to Phil’s. There is no interesting football on tonight apart from if you like Scottish football as Aberdeen is playing Dunfermline on Sky in the Scottish Cup. As this will be no interest to anyone attending tonight the decision has been made to watch the film “Mike Bassett football manager”. Will this film live up to the expectation that has been made about it?

Wednesday 11th March

Tonight sees the Wednesday night tour venture to Brins for another night of Champions League football. As the host is a United fan it’s bound to be United v Inter Milan watched. Will this game be as exciting as last nights Liverpool v Real Madrid where Liverpool won 4-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate to reach the quarter finals. Who says Liverpool are a boring side to watch!

Chelsea also booked their place in the last 8 with a 3-2 win over Juventus.

Will Ferguson’s poor record against Jose Mourinho continue tonight because the Scot has only 1 win in 13 attempts against the Portuguese?

Darren's Birthday

The night started with Mr Keane coming round early to prepare the evening feast. We then sat down to watch a terrible game of football - Blackburn v Everton. This was a boring game which we struggled to stay awake for but were eventually rescued by the refreshments which were served just after half time ended which was close to a world record. This Chilli was super hot and had everybody gasping for more beer which is never a bad thing!!! It was then announced that it was Darren's birthday, much to everybodies surprise. Luckily Brin came fully prepared with a card and cake which can be seen being presented on the video clip below. The game ended 0-0 which was an indication of how bad it was.

Wednesday 25th February

Last night Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in Spain as Chelsea beat Juventus by the same score line in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie. Is another Liverpool v Chelsea semi final on the cards?
Phil was back to his usual self and wasn't taking a beating as per previous weeks with not only his apparent constructive comments on Liverpool’s football ability to please the watching audience but also in raising his opinions on such issues as Jade Goody and Brins apparent germ issue, which was something along the lines of where he does not have baths as hot as Joe he must not kill all the germs, to this Brin replied "What germs?". Not my words these are only comments that we’re made and remembered.
